Batman & Robin (1949)
Happen to spot this movie on Youtube. I thought it was someone’s review of the movie but it ended up being the full entire movie. Sweet!. In fact you can watch it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQZjI1xEHAM)
I have to say, I have a soft spot in my heart for movies during this generation. Because the visualization was so limited, black and white, no cgi…etc movies of this era focused on the story and it allows the audience to focus more on the acting and script. This is probably why I love the hell out of Broadway plays.
To prove my case, watch this movie and then watch the 1997’s Batman & Robin movie and tell me the later movie is a better Batman movie.
Batman, The Detective
The #1 reason I enjoyed this movie is because it speaks to my version of batman. Growing up and still to this day, Batman to me is simply a detective, A detective that is intelligent and rich and able to invent and buy tools that helps him solve things. That detective side of Batman is what this movie is all about. It is a ‘who done it’ movie set in a comic world of Gotham.
Sure the plot is pretty campy, a villain needs diamonds to power a weapon, but part of being a batman fan, hell a fan of any comic book, you are a fan of the campy stuff not in spite of it. It is why we love the original Batman TV show and why this 1949 batman is sooooo enjoyable.
